Champagne Sangria with South African Twist
A refreshing blend of champagne, brandy, seasonal fruit, cinnamon sticks and orange juice. Best enjoyed chilled with a few blocks of ice.
INGREDIENTS:
1 bottle of sparkling wine or champagne (750ml)
1/4 cup brandy
2 tablespoons honey
1 cup diced fresh seasonal fruits (such as apples, oranges, and berries)
1 cinnamon stick
1/4 cup fresh orange juice
Sparkling water or lemon-lime soda (optional, for added fizz)
Fresh mint leaves for garnish
INSTRUCTIONS:
- In a large pitcher, combine the brandy, honey, diced fruits, and cinnamon stick.
- Stir in the fresh orange juice and gently muddle the fruits to release their flavors.
- Slowly pour in the sparkling wine or champagne, stirring gently to mix all the ingredients.
- Let the sangria chill in the refrigerator for at least 1 hour to allow the flavors to meld.
- Just before serving, add some ice cubes to the pitcher and stir again.
- Optionally, top up with sparkling water or lemon-lime soda to add extra fizz to the sangria.
- Serve the champagne sangria in wine glasses or goblets, garnished with fresh mint leaves for a refreshing and celebratory twist.
